Grant Program

Our Purpose:

Our grants will be to support the social emotional learning of children. We want to reach educators, counselors, and therapists working with children. We hope to positively impact a person working with youth by providing funding for tools and resources to support social emotional learning.

What is Social Emotional Learning?

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.  “What is SEL?” CASEL, www.casel.org/what-is-sel/, (June 19, 2017).

Activities that are eligible:

Community partners (educators, counselors, therapists, social workers, community agencies) working with youth.

Activities that are not eligible:

Individuals with no community partner affiliation.

Activities that will receive funding priority:

Any activity, tools, or resources that promote social emotional learning and development in children.

Maximum amount that can be awarded:

$500

Ways in which money can be spent:

Funds to purchase or create a tangible resource that promotes social emotional development.

Curriculum, activities, field trips, groups, tools or equipment.  Slumberkins must be provided with receipt or proof of correct use of funds.

Funds MAY NOT be used for salaries or paying off debt.

Review process:

Grant expectation checklist or rubric for each applicant. All applicants are welcome, but priority will be given to

  • Children with significant adverse childhood experiences
  • Children with financial hardship
  • Children with diverse racial and ethnic background
  • Children with disabilities

We are looking to fund grant submissions that are creative and dynamic in the way they engage children to increase social emotional learning (SEL).

Timeline for implementation:

Once funds are given, applicants have 3 months to implement outlined plan.  Write up of plan and final project with pictures to be shared on our website/blog within 6 months.  Unless otherwise approved due to timeline restraints for use of funds/timing of plan and pre approved by Slumberkins.

Deadline for Applying:

September 30th

Fundee’s will announced and awarded funds by December 31, 2017.
