November is Youth Homelessness Awareness Month
We're on a mission to help raise awareness and support children experiencing homelessness in our community. This month, every purchase on slumberkins.com will go toward getting a Fox Family Change Bundle in the hands of elementary students facing homelessness in the Vancouver/Portland metro area. We hope you'll join us in this important initiative..
What Youth Homelessness Looks Like
Youth homelessness can often be hard to see. It may look less like shopping carts and tents and more like kids living in cars, sleeping on friends' couches, or even taking refuge in a local park.
As of Oct 1st 2021, there are over 2100 homeless students in Portland and Vancouver.
A Bright Light in Our Community
Family-Community Resource Centers
FCRCs are community hubs in Clark County, providing support for students and families to access social support. These supports include food, clothing, school supplies, and connections to community partners for additional assistance. FCRC's primary goal is connecting with students and families to support academic achievement.
McKinney-Vento Homeless Program
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Program serves families and students in Portland schools who do not have a consistent or adequate living situation. The program provides access to school supplies and clothing, hygiene supplies, school transportation, food assistance programs, housing and energy assistance, and more.
