Otter's lessons focus on the theme of Building Connections. These lessons are all about how to help build a classroom community and strengthen connections between community members. Building a respectful and connected community is vital to the social-emotional health of students, families, teachers and all community members that are part of the classroom family. When students feel respected, safe, valued and connected to one another and the classroom, they are better able to learn and explore in the classroom in all learning domains.

What's Included?

Lesson 1: Building Connections With Otter

Students learn that no matter how far apart we may be from our loved ones, we are always connected by the love we feel in our hearts.

Lesson 2: Classroom Culture Connections

Students will learn to identify their roots and share them with the class to strengthen and build confidence in themselves and the community.

Lesson 3: Classroom Heart Family Connections

Students will strengthen their connections and feelings of safety within the classroom setting.

Lesson 4: Exploring Community Connections

Students will learn that there are many ways to see and experience the community we live in together, all deserving acceptance and respect.

    Otter curriculum in therapy

    I'm a therapist who works with children individually, so not what the curriculum is set up for but I love the otter story and resources for children in foster care or who have questions related to their adoption. I think it's a wonderful message of gaining heart family members instead of losing someone. I really enjoy having related activities to do in session and to send kids home with.
